The Biltmore Estate, located in Asheville, North Carolina, is a glorious, grand scale vestige of America’s Gilded Age.  Built by shipping and railroad magnate, George Vanderbilt, the Biltmore House is America’s largest private dwelling, comprising over 178,000 sf and 250 rooms.  Construction of the massive French Renaissance château required six years and over 1,000 workers to complete.

The Biltmore Estate has been open to the public since 1930.  Viewing is permitted throughout many of the rooms, which contain the family’s original furniture, fine art, and intricate Flemish tapestries.  Across the expansive 8,000 acre grounds of the estate, visitors can explore elaborate gardens, a Conservatory and the award-winning Biltmore Estate Winery.

Christmas at the Biltmore Estate has been a special occasion ever since a the immense house was completed on Christmas Eve, 1895.  From early November through early January of each year, lavish holiday decorations festoon the already opulent estate.  Over 100 decorated trees adorn the house and grounds.   In the Biltmore Banquet Hall, an enormous 35-foot Frazer fir fits in balanced proportion within the soaring 70-foot ceilings of the vast formal dining room.  More than 100,000 Christmas lights illuminate the house and grounds, and 250 luminaries glow in the driveway and entry Esplanade.  Some 1,000 poinsettias, 13,000 ornaments, and 7,000 fresh evergreen garlands grace the Estate.

Many festive holiday events and activities take place during Christmas at the Biltmore Estate, including caroling, live music, bonfires and the long-awaited arrival of Santa Claus.  The Inn on Biltmore Estate offers holiday story-telling, as well as workshops for decorating ornaments and cookies.  Yule tide oenophiles fuel their holiday glow with complimentary wine tastings at the Biltmore Winery.  Savvy food-focused elves head to the estate’s restaurants for merry seasonal menu offerings.

Christmas at the Biltmore Estate, like the Biltmore Estate itself, is a really big deal.  Why not supersize your holiday spirit with a visit to the Biltmore Estate?
